The apartment we rented is in the 1st, which puts it right in the center of Paris. We're just a few minutes walk from the Seine, the Louvre, the Palais Royal, the Opera, the Marais, the Beaubourg, Pont Neuf, several Diesel shops and so on.

Our little pocket of the 1st is a bit downtrodden, next to an unsuccessful redesign of the old marketplace called Les Halles. It's a cross between the East Village and the old 42nd St in New York. Lots of streetwear and music shops, as well as red light video shops. The street itself, Rue St Denis, is infamous in Paris for its prostitutes and such. So far we haven't noticed too much of that (though I saw some guy selling pills the other morning; I'll try to get him on film later).
