Battleground: the home phone

OpenPeak's announcement and a chat with Ooma recently got me thinking today about the home phone. Of course your landline is dying, but your broadband is still wired. And there is still gear for that in your house from the phone company.

Could that be a new 'screen', picking up the communal function of the answering machine in the 1990s household?

Broadband, VoIP, routers, wifi, and the long anticipated "family computer" or "kitchen computer" could soon come together. Right?

Nah. I think your TV is a more likely candidate than a new screen. It's already there, it is getting smart, it is already connected.

T-Mobile recently killed their landline program too.

Your phone company is going to have to try *really* hard if they want a different outcome.
