I have been hearing about a number of my former McKinsey colleagues heading to startups. In all of 2005, I heard of zero. Already in 06 there are at least me + 3.
There were departures last year, and they were quality people, but somehow not the ones who'd been pegged as high-octane, rapid ascent types. A lot of them were rather downshifted types -- slowing down, on recruiting, doing whatever.
