Unhip fashions

Unhip fashions

Ssee the above french Provence pattern bag in yellow. Common beach bag or handy sack (aromatised with lavender?) in the Cote d'Azure. And for that reason a vaguely 80s retro glamour feel.

But not really emerging at the edges of hipness. Not sighted on runways or streetkids or uberstyle celebs.

Though I have been increasingly sighting it on the UNhip - young women in last year's UGG boots, dowdy or sporty but not too stylish (Upper East Side-ish) winter coats, maybe an iPod or a RAZR, maybe a string of pearls. Young and probably someone who visit Barneys but somehow not cool.

For example the girl here is toting her french bag with a Lancome freebie, combining them together to serve as a single overnighter. She is detraining from the Acela after a weekend with the 'rents in Philly, after yacking rudely/loudly on her mobile phone the whole ride about boyfriends, and heading to her pre-law program for princesses somewhere in NYC.

It's like wearing J Crew and calling it retro 80s!
